A group of people have come together to save the BEST from sinking as they observe neither the BMC nor the state government is taking initiative to save this decades-old public transport body.

On 7 January, a citizen group that calls itself ‘Aamchi Mumbai, Aamchi BEST’ talked how travelling by BEST buses has become problematic over the past few months and that the administration is doing little to get it out of trouble.

A resident Farzana Sheikh blamed the government for not taking pro-BEST measures like having dedicated lanes that could elevate passenger numbers.

Not only this, they are going for projects like Coastal Road and Bandra-Versova Sea Link, etc, that are meant for private cars. Which will further decline ridership in buses,” said transport expert Sandhya Gokhale, who is a part of Aamchi Mumbai, Aamchi BEST.

This citizen group — which is supporting BEST employees’ decision to go on strike. They are collecting signatures from as many people possible and are planning to put up measures that they feel are the BEST and should adopt it.
